New North Rd bus Services

This consultation is now closed.

Submissions closed on this consultation on Monday 3 December. Auckland Transport has analysed all submissions and a final decision has been reached. Route changes will be communicated prior to implementation on 10 February 2013.

A Consultation Summary and Response Report which summarises the feedback received and provides information on the final decision as well as responses to key issues that were raised within the feedback has been sent to submitters and can be read here.

Decision

Due to the need to provide additional capacity with the current resources the decision has been made to implement the New North Rd service changes on 10 February 2013 as consulted on, except that some trips will be changed from all-stops to express as follows:

  • In the AM peak, 6 trips will run along the full length of New North Rd (i.e., not via St Lukes) and will run express between Morningside Station and Upper Symonds St.  3 trips will start from Rosebank Rd and 3 from New Lynn, combining to give a 15 minute service from Avondale between 7.00am and 8.26am.
  • In the PM peak, 6 trips will run express between Upper Symonds St and Morningside Station, then along the full length of New North Rd (i.e., not via St Lukes).  There will be a 15 minute service from the City (new Victoria Park terminus) to Avondale between 4.20pm and 5.35pm, with 3 trips continuing to Rosebank Rd and 3 to New Lynn.

In addition to the above express buses Auckland Transport has also adjusted the times of the 207 services and is investigating traffic congestion around St Lukes/Morningside Drive and Waterloo Quadrant/Symonds Street as a result of issues raised within the consultation.

Auckland Transport is aware that, as is the case whenever bus services are changed, some existing customers will be disadvantaged by the changes.  The overall objective of these changes is to simplify the route network so that services are improved for the majority and so that they are easier for new users to understand in the future.  However, some people may not be able to make their particular journey by bus as easily as they can now. There may be other options, for example walking further at one end of the journey or taking the train or an alternative bus route.

Auckland Transport apologises if any inconvenience is caused to some existing customers as a result of these changes.
