When there are no alarm bells or flashing lights always stop and look both ways to se train is coming
If a train is coming wait for the train to pass before crossing the tracks
If you cannot see far enough along the track in both directions always wait for alarm be and flashing lights to stop before you cross
Two tracks can mean two trains. If a train has stopped at a station or if a train has just past, the alarms could be going because of a second train in the other direction.
Never walk down the tracks - it is dangerous and illegal with a maximum fine of $10,000
Never use railway bridges - there is only enough space for trains
Be aware that some trains extend well beyond the track - you can be hit even if you are some distance from the tracks
A fast train creates a vacuum which can suck you in if you are too close
