The Real Time Board on our public transport website homepage and mobile site has been upgraded to show both scheduled and, if a bus is being tracked, real time information side by side on the same line of information.
Before the upgrade, if a bus was not being tracked in real time by the real time system (due to driver error, faulty equipment on the bus or if the trip was running late and had not started yet), the Real Time Board would default to the scheduled time of the trip in the due column and countdown based on the scheduled time, until the bus was tracked by the system.
If a vehicle remained untracked, the scheduled information would countdown and the service would drop off the sign when the service was due via your stop. If the vehicle registered along the route, the due countdown would update on the sign to display real time information instead of the scheduled information.
The new layout means you can easily see what buses are timetabled to arrive at your stop and whether they are being tracked or not.
We are also changing the Real Time boards on the street over the next few months to show the same layout. Android and iPhone users should look out for Auckland Transport app updates very shortly. Click here for more information about these services
Auckland Transport is making improvements to service and disruption information it provides to public transport passengers.
We have introduced new information services for mobile phones including iPhone and Android phone apps and a mobile site designed for easier smartphone use. Click here for more for about these services
In addition, more electronic signs are being installed at bus and rail stops around Auckland, including new solar powered bus signs specially designed for lower patronage stops.
Signs at train stations are now showing real time train information, allowing you to see when your next train is due.
New GPS vehicle tracking on trains is now providing true real time information to provide more accurate predictions of departure times for trains at train stations. This train information is live on the AT.co.nz website's Live Departure Board. For each service, in addition to the details about the route, you can see the scheduled time for that service to be departing from your station.
You will see in the "Due" column a countdown of the minutes to go until the train is predicted to depart, based on its current location, speed and direction.
The information on the signs at train stations will be displayed as below, showing the scheduled time as well as the expected due time of the train. At some stage in the future bus information will be displayed in the same way:
All the following abbreviations are explained in white decals at the bottom of signs:
/N = Via Newmarket. This will only be used if the number of characters for the destination of a service exceeds the number that can be displayed on the train station signs. /GI = Via Glen Innes. This will only be used if the number of characters for the destination of a service exceeds the number that can be displayed on the train station signs. /LS = Limited Service. This will only be used if the number of characters for the destination of a service exceeds the number that can be displayed on the train station signs.
X = Express service.
