350 is the number that leading scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide—measured in “Parts Per Million” in our atmosphere. Today the planet has 390 parts per million CO2 – and this number is rising by about 2 parts per million every year.
350.org was founded by U.S. author Bill McKibben, who wrote one of the first books on global warming for the general public. On 22 September 2009 the 350 campaign included 5200 actions in 181 countries.
350 day encourages people to think about how small changes can make a key contribution to the 350 goal. Choosing sustainable transport is one way individuals can make a difference. By using public transport, carpooling, walking or cycling you can help reduce your impact.
The official worldwide event is 24 October 2010

TravelWise helped schools all over New Zealand to take part in 350-themed actions. Schools participated in the 350 Aotearoa-hosted Schools' Day of Climate Action, sending a strong message to today's leaders that New Zealand youth want strong action on climate change.
