Where to pay
Following is a list of ticket agents and information about where to purchase tickets.

How to pay
Generally, all forms of public transport in the Auckland region require a fare to be paid at the time of boarding.
Buses
When boarding the bus, have your fare ready to give to the driver. You can pay by cash (exact change is preferred) and most bus companies also have smart cards, which are either inserted into the driver's ticket machine or placed on a reader on top of the ticket machine.
Most bus cash fares are charged on the distance you wish to travel. Distance based stage points are used to calculate the fare charged. Stage points are set at specific points along a bus route, approximately every four kilometres, often at a point of interest such as a local shopping centre.
If your journey travels across a stage point then the fare increases. For instance if you were to make a journey from Manukau City to central Auckland City, you pass through stage points at Hunters Corner, Otahuhu, the Harp of Erin and Newmarket. Therefore you travel 5 stages.
You can save money by purchasing various passes and 10 ride tickets from ticket agents as well as on the bus.
Some transport operators require you to buy an electronic card to load rides, although Birkenhead Transport has cardboard tickets.

Trains
Tickets can be purchased on the train, however for travel from Britomart, Newmarket or Papakura it is recommended that you buy your ticket before you board at the station ticket offices.
Cash fares and 10 ride tickets are charged on the distance you wish to travel. Distance based stage points are used to calculate the fare charged. Stage points are set at specific points along the railway line. If your journey travels across a stage point then the fare increases. For instance if you were to make a journey from New Lynn Station to Mt Eden Station you would pass through stage points at Mt Albert and Kingsland. Therefore you'd travel a total of three stages.
For monthly train passes, Auckland is divided into zones offering the choice of an all zone pass or less expensive zone specific passes. For example the City Monthly pass offers unlimited train travel between Otahuhu and New Lynn Stations, which is great if you work in the CBD. If you are using an adult monthly pass you can travel for free on Waka Pacific/North Star/GO WEST/Metrolink bus services to and from Britomart Station from within the 50c CBD stage area. Simply show your pass to the bus driver.
You'll travel for less by purchasing various passes and 10 ride tickets either on the train or from train ticket agents. Individual cash tickets can also be purchased at the Britomart ticket kiosk in downtown Auckland, the Newmarket Station and the Papakura Station.

Ferries
All ferries accept cash payment for fares. Eftpos and credit card facilities are also available. Fares are based on a point to point trip, for instance Half Moon Bay to downtown. You can save money by purchasing monthly passes or 10 ride tickets, depending on the ferry operator. These can be purchased from ticket agents and in some cases on the ferry itself.
Fullers
For Fullers ferry services, please purchase your tickets for travel at a Fullers ticket office or onboard the ferry. Please note that for Waiheke, Rangitoto and the Harbour Cruise ferry services, you will need to purchase tickets prior to boarding.
Pine Harbour Ferry
Tickets and passes for the Pine Harbour Ferry can be purchased on board or prior to boarding.
Gulf Harbour Ferry
Tickets for the Gulf Harbour Ferry can be purchased on the ferry or from the Downtown Ferry Terminal Pier 3 ticket office.
West Harbour Ferry
West Harbour Ferry tickets and passes are only available from on board the ferry.
